Virtual wine class (2) – 67 Pall Mall #67FromHome

On 31 May 2020 I hosted a virtual wine tasting with 67 Pall Mall, which attracted hundreds of live views.

67 Pall Mall is the world’s most revered private members wine club, built for wine lovers by wine lovers. It has got online wine tasting down to a fine art and surely sets the standard for such online events going forward. Hailed by its members as “the best thing to come out of lockdown”, it looks set to become a permanent fixture of the club.

Ronan Sayburn MS has become the star host of these wonderful virtual tastings.

I chose 6 premium Chinese wines from Ningxia, Shandong and Xinjiang provinces for the tasting. The wines are bottled in tasting sized bottles and sent to members who wish to taste the wines with me live during the session, complete with tasting mat and temperature indicator for white / sweet wines. The bottle is also topped up with inert gas to minimise oxidation. I was blown away by how sleek this wine kit looks. And the wines showed beautifully during the tasting – there was no handicap to the experience of the wines.

Alone with tasting 6 fabulous Chinese wines, I also discussed the various wine regions of China, and explored topics such as:

Will Chinese wines become mainstream? What’s its rite of passage and how long will it take? What’s the post-COVID landscape for ‘made in China’ and how does Chinese wines feature in that picture? Plus wine & food, wine & culture and why the Chinese insist on getting you drunk at banquets😆🍷…
